About me and my work…

I’m Gail Speedy Mayeaux and I served for 12 years as the CEO of Southern Tier Community Health Center, a rural two-county Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in upstate New York. I became the executive director prior to the clinic being designated as an FQHC and authored the initial application to become an FQHC Look Alike in 2008. At that point, I was able to lead the organization to becoming an FQHC grantee in June, 2012. Throughout my tenure at the health center and supported by a team of fabulous experts and staff, the clinic tripled in size financially, retired all of its long-term debt and doubled its patient size. The clinic also expanded to provide integrated behavioral health and dental services and in 2017, completed the de novo expansion of a brand new site.

After leaving my health center at the end of 2017, I then spent the next seven years as an employed consultant before establishing my own independent consulting firm in March 2014. Throughout my tenure as a consultant, I have written more than 30 grant applications including FQHC New Access Points, Service Area Competitions and Look Alike applications. I have also authored Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic applications and numerous state and private foundation applications. Personally, I enjoy working directly with health centers to address operational challenges, including serving as interim staff for one health center to shepherd its transition into an accountable care organization and working for six months with another health center to address financial shortfalls after a large construction project. Finally, this past fall I completed the HRSA-mandated training to become an Operational Site Visit reviewer and have previously assisted several organizations with preparing for the OSV by providing a Mock OSV.

When not working, I live with my husband, Darryl, and our rescue pets in rural upstate New York where we enjoy hiking, traveling and have recently completed our home renovations.
